Spring Plan of Attack

Seeing all my fellow bloggers organize and plan their sewing projects for the spring has inspired me. I had a number of half baked schemes but nothing official and I thought it was high time to figure out what is going to be on the cutting table in the coming months.

My biggest problem is a fabric addiction. I have no willpower in fabric stores whatsoever and the stash has been growing.... and growing.... and growing. I also have a huge stack of patterns to get through, along with a few bookmarked Burda magazine babies, not to mention pieces in the Burda Style and Colette books I've been dying to make. So today I spent a good portion of the afternoon matching fabric to pattern, and have come up with 12 projects to take me into the summer. Some of them may get pushed back if I happen to trip over a particularly lovely pattern or fabric but this should keep me busy for the next few months. I am aiming to finish 3 projects a month - these pieces will ease me into summer and are a good mix of work and fun.

I didn't consciously plan it but most of the fabric I'll be working with is super bright and saturated. So excited to introduce some bright, happy colour into my life right now. Bring on the sun!

  1. Wow! Love your styled photo shots with pictures and fabric! My personal favourite is that gorgeous acid yellow for the Salme blouse... I have a bit of an addiction to this colour at the moment! McCalls 6278 looks like a really great dress pattern! I'm looking forward to seeing the end results :)

  3. OOOOH, I can't wait! So many great combos. And I love the colors. So fun. I also am constantly trying to find better color options for my wardrobe instead of just resorting to black. I am really excited to see these come to reality. Especially the sack dress and truffle dress.

  4. I'm very eager to see Mccalls 6278- I love this pattern but I'm not very sure what to do it in- your fabric choices look fabulous!

  5. What a great plan! I find I am much more focused when I plan out what I want to sew. I love the sheer pink blouse, the blue jersey dress, and the silver and watermelon dress.

    1. No question Sarah - this exercise has taught me that I need structure. Plans from here on out. (Let us briefly ignore the 4 yards of white and green striped cotton I bought on Saturday I have yet to pair with a pattern).

    1. I love it too! I bought it at Fabricville which is basically the Canadian fabric Walmart. I think finding something similar shouldn't be a problem as the neons are really big this season - any big fabric emporium will hopefully be up on the trends and have something in stock.

  7. Awesome plan! I love how you've matched fabric to pattern and tagged your fabric rolls - so organized! I gotta say... I'm super pumped about that caftan. The fabric is pretty awesome and their just so dramatic! Plus perfect for warm days, around the house, the beach.... pretty much everything I want to do in the summer!

Other favorites - the acid yellow Salme blouse and the Colette truffle (lovely patterns + kickass fabrics - totally modern)

Can't wait to see your work!

    1. I could live in a caftan. I secretly just want to stroll around a Palm Springs pool with yards of billowing caftan swirling around me as I drink martinis and flirt with the poolboy.

    1. I think this is the only way to go with me. I feel much better knowing what I'll be making for the next few months. Except for the patterns I just impulse purchased today because of the Vogue/McCall's sale. Oopsy daisy.
